As a hopeful writer, I was excited about the prospect of Medium. Yet tomorrow, I will let my membership lapse.
Why?
The poorly managed and constantly changing platform, the extremely low payouts, the lack of transparency in how those payouts are calculated, the overall lack of quality writing on the platform, and the tragic feeling of being involved in a pyramid scheme designed to get struggling writers to read and pay for each other’s work became too disheartening and demotivating.
On the positive side, Medium introduced me to many aspiring writers, and today, I consider several of them my real-life, 3D friends. Thanks for that, Medium.
I have removed my stories because the only thing worse than getting 37 cents for your work is giving it away for free. I hope you were able to read and enjoy them while they were here.
I’m going to leave my profile up, and if you’ve followed me in the past, please continue to do so. That way, I can post a little blurb if/when I publish the book I’m currently trying to finish (81% done!).
